Information sent on behalf of Neighbourhood Watch in Nottinghamshire

Special General Meeting to Consider Proposed Changes to the Constitution of Mansfield and Ashfield Neighbourhood Watch.

All members of Neighbourhood Watch Schemes in the Mansfield and Ashfield District areas are invited to attend a Special General Meeting to consider changes to our Constitution.

The proposal is that the current Mansfield and District Neighbourhood Watch Association, which is registered as a Charity with the Charity Commission, will become the Mansfield and Ashfield Neighbourhood Watch Association; acting as an umbrella organisation to support and promote Neighbourhood Watch schemes throughout the two District areas.

Whilst the Constitution has been generally updated, there are some points of specific interest to note:

  • The change of name of the Association.
  • Significant changes to the Objects of the Association to include promoting good citizenship; addressing loneliness, isolation and vulnerability and enhancing neighbourliness; providing communities with information, education and advice from a wide spectrum of service providers relating to health, safety and well-being; supporting the promotion and improvement of independence, resilience and improve quality of life.
  • A requirement for voting members to be registered;
  • some minor changes to the rules of the Executive Committee and procedures of general meetings.

Under the existing Constitution, the proposed changes  need to be passed by 'not less than two thirds of the members present and voting at a general meeting'. If the proposed changes are passed, the next stage is for the amendments to be considered by the Charity Commission before being finally adopted by us at a further Special General Meeting.

The new constitution, which is attached for you to read, provides a clear vision for the future direction of the Association and it is therefore requested that as many members as possible attend.

The meeting will take place at: 7pm on  Wednesday 25th July, 2018 at Ladybrook Enterprises, Ladybrook Community Centre, Ladybrook Lane, Mansfield NG18 5JJ. Parking is available with access from Bancroft Lane. Tea and coffee will be provided.

I look forward to seeing you there.
